7-Day Classic Loop
The most common first-timer route: Cultural Triangle, hill country by train, and a couple of nights on the south coast.

Day by day
Day 1 — Arrive, transfer to the Cultural Triangle
Land in Colombo and transfer directly toward Sigiriya/Dambulla to save a travel day later in the trip.
Day 2 — Sigiriya Rock Fortress
Early climb of Sigiriya before the heat sets in. Afternoon at leisure or an optional village and lake tour by bullock cart and canoe.
Day 3 — Dambulla to Kandy
Cave temples in the morning, then on to Kandy. Evening cultural dance performance and a walk around Kandy Lake.
Day 4 — Train to the hill country
The scenic train from Kandy toward Ella, through tea plantations and misty hills. Settle into Ella for two nights.
Day 5 — Ella
Morning hike to Little Adam's Peak, a tea factory visit in the afternoon, and a walk out to the Nine Arch Bridge for golden hour.
Day 6 — South coast
Drive down to the south coast (Mirissa or Galle). Afternoon at the beach or a wander through Galle Fort's old town.
Day 7 — South coast and departure
Optional early whale watching trip in season (November–April), then transfer back to Colombo for departure.
